Federer begins bid for sixth straight Wimbledon (23/6/2008 9:38:13 πμ)

Roger Federer will not have it easy if he wants to claim his sixth straight Wimbledon title and his bid to reclaim his crown begins on Centre Court today against Slovakian Dominik Hrbaty.

Federer potentially faces a tricky game in all rounds on route to the final, if the tournament progresses the way in which it is expected, and the first banana skin starts against the Slovakian veteran.

Hrbaty has beaten Federer in their last two meetings, although none of them have been on grass, the world number one's undoubted favourite surface.

Federer should win and is valued at 1.01 to do so, but it may not be as easy as everyone assumes.

Robin Soderling is the likely opponent for Federer in the second round, a player that took Rafael Nadal to five sets last year and is probably at his best on the faster surfaces.

If Federer wins these two, players such as Gael Monfils, Mario Ancic, the last player to beat Federer at Wimbledon, and Novak Djokovic could all stand in the way of Federer reaching the final.

So it may not all be plain sailing for the Swiss grass court legend.
