Mario Ancic will be looking to take inspiration from the fact that he was the last player to beat Roger Federer on a grass court, when the duo clash in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon today.

Unfortunately for Ancic, that victory did come in the first-round at Wimbledon six years ago and since Federer has gone on to claim five successive Wimbledon titles.

Although Federer will be a massively strong favourite, and understandably so, Ancic will be no push-over and definitely has the capabilities of making the world number one work for a semi-final place.

Ancic would no doubt be higher in the rankings if he could consistently remain free from injury, and this year he has managed to for the most part with impressive results.

If Ancic hadn't gone through a near four hour marathon with Fernando Verdasco on Monday, a match in which he won the deciding fifth set 13-11, then he may have a legitimate shot of running Federer close.

However, it would be exceedingly tough to have completely recovered from that classic and with Federer winning every game in straight sets so far, it would be hard to look beyond a similar conclusion today.

Federer is 1.02 to safeguard a passage into the last four with Ancic available at 8.00.
